Obituary of Evelyn Paulette Thompson McCaskill

CASSATT – A funeral service for Evelyn Paulette Thompson McCaskill, 79, will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Scotch Cemetery.  Dr. T. Wayne Dority will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeshore Drive Church of God or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. McCaskill, wife of the late Clennie McCaskill, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024.  Born in Hartsville, she was the daughter of the late James E. Thompson, Sr. and Nellie O’Neal Thompson. She was a member of Lakeshore Drive Church of God.

Mrs. McCaskill was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and “Maw Maw,” “Darlin,” “Nanny,” or “Nana,” as she was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, quilting, gardening, and traveling with her late husband, especially to the mountains.

Surviving are her children, Shelly M. Dority (T. Wayne) of Camden, Chip McCaskill (Lisa) of Cassatt, Shannon Amerson (James) of Cassatt and Jason McCaskill (Graham) of Camden; brother, James “Buddy” Thompson, Jr. (Nancy) of Camden; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Larry Thompson.
