HIGH SCHOOLS: Carolina Academy softball on brink of state title

LAKE CITY, S.C. – Carolina Academy’s Paisley Coker hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bobcats a dramatic 8-6 win over Dorchester Academy in Tuesday’s opening game of the SCISA 2A softball state championship series.

Game 2 is today at Dorchester Academy at 7 p.m.

The Bobcats trailed 6-4 going into Tuesday’s bottom of the seventh. But Natalie Braveboy’s two-run homer after Paisley McCutcheon’s walk evened the score at 6.

Carolina Academy played catch-up all game. After trailing 3-0, run-scoring plays included a Raeley Frye RBI single.

Frye was the winning pitcher, striking out five batters during the complete-game effort.

NOTE: WF pitcher Annie Ruth Eliason reached her 1,000th career strikeout during the 2nd inning.

BAMBERG – The Cavaliers scored four runs in the fourth inning to make it 5-0. Andrew Jackson made a charge, but it was too little, too late as Lee Academy took Game 1 of the SCISA 2A state championship series.

Game 2 is today at Lee Academy.

In Tuesday’s fourth inning, Lee scored on an error and balk, as well as a single by Andrew Bowers.

Winning pitcher Myles Frye struck out five batters in six innings, and Bowers earned the save.
