Her greatest joy was being “Nanny” to Brent and Carson, Blake and Emily, Kendall and Julia, Cameron and Sonam, Dillon, and Kenya. She took great pride in attending their academic and athletic events and loved nothing more than preparing their favorite meals. Shirley met the love of her life, Leonard, at Stuckey’s in Marion while traveling from Camden to Myrtle Beach. He was the gas attendant and as legend has it, Mr. Leonard had to write several letters to gain Mrs. Shirley’s interest. Once together, they worked hand in hand to build a beautiful life and a thriving farming operation, L & S Farms, in the Panola Community.

A gifted cook and talented businesswoman, Shirley owned and operated Cogdill Catering for over thirty years, serving countless local families, brides, and businesses with her delicious food and warm hospitality. She was also co-owner of a floral shop in Manning and later opened Cogdill’s on Main, a beloved dress and jewelry boutique in Summerton.

Known for her kindness, humility, and devotion to her family and faith, Shirley lived her life as a true servant of God. She was a dedicated member of Andrews Chapel Church in Pinewood and also attended Summerton Baptist Church as her health allowed.
