Capt. J. A. Benson died at the hospital in Columbia last Saturday. He had been sick for a week or more at the home of Mr. Geo. A. Jennings, where he boarded, and was carried to the hospital for treatment the first part of last week. He had been staying in Bamberg most of the time for the past two years, having built the new Methodist church and the residence of Mr. Jones A. Williams, the work on the Williams residence being almost completed. Capt. Benson was about sixty years old. Bright’s disease was the cause of his death. He was a resident of Camden, and leaves a wife and several children.
