Kershaw’s Auditor Dead

Special to The State.

Camden, March 2. – Mr. William R. McCreight, auditor of Kershaw county, died early this morning at his home on Lytleton street, after an illness of about 10 days. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning.

Mr. McCreight was an enthusiastic Confederate veteran, wearing his cross of honor, having gone into service when only 16 years of age and remaining to the end of the war. He was a most genial companion, a talented musician, always ready to assist in any public entertainment and the community will greatly miss him on Memorial days.

Mr. McCreight was a fine bookkeeper and has for several years been assistant in the auditor’s office and had recently been elected to the position, which he held at the time of his death.

His many friends will certainly regret to hear of his death.

He leaves a devoted wife and one grown son to mourn their loss.
