MR. S. B. LATHAM DEAD

He Was a Well Known Citizen of Camden and Galiant Veteran.

Special to The State.

Camden, Aug. 13, – Mr. Samuel B. Latham, alderman from the Fourth ward and a highly respected citizen of Camden, died here suddenly this morning at 8:30 o’clock.

Mr. Lathan was found sitting in his office at his livery stable by a servant, where he had been reading the morning paper. He had been in good health and was in fine humor this morning a few minutes before he was found.

The physicians who were summoned pronounced the cause of his death to be apoplexy.

The deceased came to Camden from Davie county, N. C., in 1871 or ’72 and had led an exemplary life. He engaged in the hotel and livery business for a number of years and after his hotel, the Latham house, was burned about 12 years ago he improved his stables and has devoted his attention to that business since.

He has represented his ward in municipal affairs several times and has the record of a good official.

His war record is a good one, he having been wounded in battle several times. He leaves a wife and eight children.

The funeral services will be held at the Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 5 o’clock. He will be buried with Masonic honors, of which order he was a member. The following gentlemen will act as honorary pallbearers: Dr. A. A. Moore, Dr. D. L. DeSaussure, Mr. H. G. Carrison and Mr. A. D. Kennedy.

Mr. Latham was 63 years old in December.
