Crushed To Death By Car

Hal. C. Moore Run Over in Seaboard Yards at Cayce This Morning.

This Morning about 9:40 o’clock Hal C. Moore, a car inspector employed by the Seaboard Air Line railway, was killed on the Seaboard’s new yard at Cayce, just across the Congaree river.

It seems that Mr. Moore was working under a car on No. 10 track in the new yard at Cayce, fixing some defect. By those who witnessed the tragedy it is claimed that the car was without the protection of a blue flag, as is required by railroad rules. Switch engine 512, in charge of Conductor H. Winchester and Engineer George L. Glenn, was switching cars and backed into track No. 10 striking the car. Being taken unawares the car ran over Mr. Moore’s legs, completely severing them midway between the hips and the knees. He lived only 15 minutes after the accident, bleeding to death before medical assistance could reach him.

The coroner of Lexington county, held an inquest over the remains shortly after, and the verdict was that the deceased came to his death accidentally by being run over by a Seaboard switch engine. The remains were brought to Columbia about 11 o’clock this morning and placed in a local undertaking establishment to be prepared for burial. The funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Hal C. Moore, who resided at 712 Taylor Street, was about 39 years of age, and was a native of Fairfield county, moving to Columbia about 12 years ago. He was formerly employed by the Southern railway, but has been working for the Seaboard Air Line for the past five years. He is survived by his widow, seven children, six girls and one boy, the oldest of whom is a girl of 14 years, and one brother, John Moore, of near Bethune.

Mr. Moore was an accurate and conscientious worker, and was well liked by his fellow employes.

Hal C. Moore Be Buried At Blaney

The body of Hal C. Moore, the car inspector who was killed on the Seaboard yards at Cayce yesterday morning, August 21, 1912 will be sent to Blaney at 4:15 o’clock this afternoon, August 22, 1912, for interment. About 30 of the employes of the Seaboard here will accompany the remain to their last resting place. The following Seaboard representatives of the Brotherhood of the Railway Carmen will go with the body; F. N. Jones, J. H. Lorick, James Lorick, D. A. Smith and J. E. Moore.

Hal C. Moore Meets Death at Cayce Early Yesterday Morning – Native of Fairfield.

Hal C. Moore, a car inspector of the Seaboard Air Line railway, was killed early yesterday at Cayce, by being run over by a switch engine. The coroner’s inquest brought out the fact the tragedy was an accident.

Mr. Moore of 712 Taylor street, this city, was about 39 years of age and was a native of Fairfield county, having moved to Columbia 12 years ago. He formerly was employed on the Southern railway, and has been with the Seaboard for the past five years. He is survived by his widow, seven children, six girls and one boy, and a brother, John Moore, of near Bethune.

The remains were brought to this city and will be shipped to his old home today.
