He was born near Blaney, the son of Mrs. Mattie Hinson Dowey, and the late Charlie Dowey.
Mr. Dowey, a farmer and hardware dealer, was a member of Blaney Baptist Church, the American Legion, and was a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Effie Abbott Dowey; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Kelly, Blaney; a son, T. Sgt. Glenn M. Dowey, U. S. Air Force; a sister, Mrs. G. A. Ray, Dentsville; three brothers, Jack Dowey, J. D. Dowey, and Willie Dowey, all of Dentsville; two granddaughters, Martha Kelly and Tina Dowey.
G. A. Dowey of Blaney Dies
Glenn A. Dowey, 63, of Rt. 1, Blaney, died at 7 o’clock Saturday morning at his home after a period of declining health.
He was born at Blaney, the son of Charlie Dowey and Mattie Hinson Dowey. He was a farmer and proprietor. Mr. Dowey was a member of the Blaney Baptist Church and the American Legion.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Effie Abbott Dowey; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Kelly, Blaney; a son, T. Sgt. Glenn M. Dowey, U. S. Air Force; a sister, Mrs. G. A. Ray, Dentsville; three brothers, Jack Dowey, J. D. Dowey, and Willie Dowey, all of Dentsville; two granddaughters, Miss Martha Kelly and Miss Tina Dowey of Blaney.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o’clock this afternoon from the Blaney Baptist Church by the Rev. Dean Clyde, the Rev. Mr. Harvey, and the Rev. Mr. Partridge. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Leon Stockman, J. D. Watson, Jr., Dolph Kelly, J. Paul Ross, Jr., J. L. Ross and Everett Stockman. They are to meet at the home at 3:30 o’clock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Branham, Albert Kelly, A. B, Nelsion, J. D. Watson, Sr., Leonard Peake, Dr. R. A. Cocran, A. J. Smith, Charlie Wooten, G. D. Goodwin, B. K. Rose, Brooks Branham, Joe Wilson, Arthur Hines, Willie Roberts, Edwin Sessions, and Eddie Ross. They are asked to meet at the Blaney Baptist Church at 3:55 o’clock.
The body will be at the Paschal Funeral Home until 9 o’clock this morning at which time it will be taken to the home.
