Obituary of Harold W Stephens
ELGIN – Funeral service with full military honors for Harold Warren Stephens Jr., 88, will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Honor Flight of South Carolina, PO Box 292421, Columbia, S.C. 29229.
Mr. Stephens, husband of the late Gertrude May Stephens, died Thursday, February 11, 2010. Born in Lowell, Mass., he was a son of the late Harold W. Stephens and Gertrude Russell Stephens. He served in the United States Navy for four years and the United States Air Force for 18 years, retiring with over 22 years of active service.. He served in WW II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW, AMVETS, D.A.V., and the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Surviving are his children, Wayne Stephens and his wife, Lowry of Columbia, Gloria Kinville and her husband Richard of Sanbornville, N.H., Cheryl Morris and her husband, John of Lugoff, and Mark Stephens and his partner, Mark of Elgin; brother, Richard Stephens and his wife, Eleanor of Hudson, N.H.; sister, Virginia Glidden of North Chelmsford, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Harold W. Stephens, III; brothers, Robert Stephens and David Stephens; and sisters, Eleanor Stephens, May Barrett, Judith Stephens.
