Bennie Oscar Branham

LEXINGTON – Bennie Oscar Branham, 91, of Lexington, SC, passed away April 10, 2017. He was born on May 11, 1925, in Blaney, SC, to the late Tillman Benjamin Branham and Olive Gladden Branham.

Bennie served in WWII in the Pacific Campaign and the Korean War and was a medic in both the Marines and the Navy. He was employed by Southern Bell and retired after 27 ½ years. After retiring, Bennie enjoyed working on cars with his friends and most especially spending time on Wednesday mornings with his “Coffee Buddies”

Bennie is survived by his daughter, Patricia Branham of Columbia, SC; his son, Benjamin Branham of West Columbia, SC; his stepdaughter, Billie Bolton Gunn (Jim) of Boquete, Panama; two stepgrandsons, Jay Bolton of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Greg Bolton of West Columbia, SC; two sisters, Lois Carnes of Elgin, SC, and Mary Corley of Saluda, SC; and a brother, Richard Branham (Sivas) of Elgin, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved “Significant Other Family” of his later years, Wanda Brasington, Michelle Brasington and CJ Kelly of West Columbia, SC.

Bennie was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel James Branham.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home at 2645 Hard Scrabble Rd., Columbia, SC. Interment will follow in the Branham-Hayes Family Cemetery at Smyrna United Methodist Church at 16 Smyrna Rd., Elgin, SC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their thanks to Lighthouse Hospice Group of Irmo and Colonial Gardens Alzheimer’s Special Care Center for providing excellent care for Bennie. A very special thanks goes to Melissa Brodgett for the wonderful loving care that she provided for “Mr. Bennie.”
