Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Catholic Church for Mary Althaire Culp at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.  Father Sandy McDonald will officiate.  Burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery will follow at 1:00 PM.  Memorials may be made to the St. John Neumann Catholic Church Building Fund, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

Mary, daughter of the late Ida Traughber and Joseph Marion Mattingly, was born in Clarksville, TN. She was the widow of Col. James Franklin Culp.

Mary is survived by her sons, James F. Culp, Jr. (Patsy) of Greenville, SC, John R. Culp of Columbia,  David M. Culp (Lindy) of Blythewood, and Charles J. Culp (Patti) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Katie Culp, Andy Culp, Kelley Culp and Max Culp; and great-grandchild,  Benjamin Waters.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Dolly Arnold.
