Rev. Milton Lee McGuirt

Rev. Milton Lee McGuirt, 87, husband of Betty Moss Bailey McGuirt, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Wesley Commons in Greenwood, SC.

Born April 22, 1937, in Lancaster, SC, he was a son of the late James Luther and Elizabeth Louise Duncan McGuirt. He was a graduate of Wofford College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Rev. McGuirt was the founding pastor of St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church in Hilton Head, SC.

He served in United Methodist churches across South Carolina in Blaney, Columbia, Orangeburg, Greenwood, Spartanburg, Pawley’s Island, and Hemingway. He was the District Superintendent of the Walterboro District for five years. He was a trustee of the Aldersgate Special Needs Ministry in addition to other positions held in the South Carolina Conference.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Beth Stuart (John) of Lexington, SC; a son, Bob McGuirt of Rock Hill, SC; two grandchildren, Caroline Stuart Tucker (Evan) of Little Mountain, SC and Jack Stuart (Alison) of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Banks Stuart and Whit Tucker; a sister, Genia Bowers (Jerry) of Lancaster; and several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by a sister, Annie June Pitmon; and a brother, Tommy McGuirt.

A service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Wesley Commons Asbury Hall, Greenwood SC. The family will greet guests at 2:00pm, also at Asbury Hall.
