Obituary of Janice Owens Thompson

Camden – A service to celebrate the life of Janice Owens Thompson, 73, will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Charlotte Neuroscience Foundation, 411 Billingsley Road, Suite 103, Charlotte, N.C.  28211.

Mrs. Thompson passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.  Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Harold Jesse Owens and Lillie Mae Hunter Owens. She was family oriented, loved taking family vacations to Disney World, and going on cruises.  Her grandchildren gave her the greatest joy and she adored her Golden Girls, Mary Ann, Cathy and Mertie.  Mrs. Thompson was known for her good cooking and she enjoyed reading.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Foy Wayne Thompson; daughter, Sharon Smith (Chip); son, Jason Thompson (Stephanie); sisters, Sue Iriel and Cynthia “Cindy” Rabago (Emory); and grandchildren, Braden Smith, Reagan Smith, Madison Thompson, and Owen Thompson.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Vicki Ross; and brother, Johnny Owens.
