Obituary of Julia P. Morton

CAMDEN—A celebration of life for Julia Poplin Morton, 86, will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with a gathering of friends and family to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a local animal shelter.

Mrs. Morton passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025. Born in Oakboro, NC, she was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Poplin. A Littleton Street United Methodist Church member, Julia served her community with grace and compassion.

Professionally, she thrived as a bookkeeper and accountant for various automobile dealerships, where her meticulous nature shone. Beyond her work, Julia cherished her passions for reading and gardening, but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy P. Morton, with whom she shared 64 cherished years; her daughter, Melony Dingle of Mayesville; her brother, James “Jim” Poplin of N.C.; grandchildren Will Dingle (Brittany), Julia Robinson (Greg), and Jayne Dingle (Casey); and two adored great-grandchildren. Julia was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Morton, her brother, David Poplin, and her son-in-law, William R. Dingle Jr.

Julia Poplin Morton will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering spirit, and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
