Obituary of Anita McLaughlin Chase

Anita McLaughlin Chase, 90, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025. Born in Presque Isle, MI, on December 2, 1934,  to the late Maurice and Doriene MacPherson McLaughlin. She enjoyed baking for other people, gardening and playing the piano. She was an active member of Lugoff First Baptist Church since 1974. Ms. Chase graduated from Mapleton High School in Mapleton, Maine, Class of ’52 and from Biloxi Cosmetology School, Biloxi, Mississippi, Class of ’60. Ms. Chase spent several years with New England Tel. & Tel. in Presque Isle, Maine. 17 years with Carswell, Green & Cantey, CPA’s in Accounting, and Tax and Auditing Departments. She eventually retired from Union Camp Corporation – Cost accounting – Woodlands Division.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Vicki Ogburn (Tony) of Lugoff, SC and Tanya Black (Michael) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Krista Eileen Watson (Liz) of Greenville, SC, Andrew Horton Ogburn (Maggie) of Greenville, SC, Kayla Leigh Turnage (Brent) of The Netherlands and Alyssa Faith Melton (Tyler) of Lugoff, SC, special caregiver, Belinda Watkins of Lugoff, SC and several nieces and nephews of Maine.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her late husband Richard Wallace Chase; and brothers, Richard McLaughlin of West Chapman, ME and Roger McLaughlin of West Chapman, ME.

A funeral service honoring the life of Ms. Chase will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 4:30 pm at Lugoff First Baptist Church. With burial to follow the service in Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Doug Huntsinger will be officiating.
