Rose Ferrell McLeod was born on 17 Oct 1927 in Bethune, Kershaw County, South Carolina, USA a child of Dalton Lawrence McLeod Sr. and Minnie Edna Ferrell McLeod.

Rose Partin Obituary

Rose Ferrell McLeod Partin, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at her home of over 70 years in Camden, South Carolina. Rose was born on October 17, 1927, in Bethune, South Carolina to Minnie Edna Ferrell and Dalton L. McLeod. 

She joins in heaven her beloved husband, Edwin Davis (Dave) Partin, to whom she was married for almost 40 years, and son, Andrew S. (Andy) Partin.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dalton L. McLeod Jr. and Hubert McLeod, and sister Minnie Edna McLeod, as well as nephews and her daughter-in-law Mary Elizabeth (Maj) Partin.

Rose is survived by her sons Patrick D. (Pat) Partin of Camden, SC, Phillip E. Partin (Barbara) of Camden, SC, Roderick A. Partin (Dawn) of Summerville, SC; daughter Gwendolyn Partin Murphy (Keith) of Columbia, SC, grandchildren David A. Partin (Gretchen) of Camden, Elizabeth L. Partin of Lancaster, SC, Charlotte K. Murphy (Dulane) of Roswell, GA, Michael A. Murphy (Kristin) of Columbia, Sarah Partin John (Breeden) of Columbia, Helen Partin Byrns (Mike) of Columbia, Mary Elizabeth Austin (Adam) of Charleston SC, Edwin Davis Partin (Claire) of Charleston SC, Lynn Murphy (Tommy) of Atlanta, GA, and nine great-grandchildren.

Rose lived a remarkable life of strength, love, and reliance.  She graduated from Camden High School and at 16 enrolled in Camden School of Nursing.  In 1944, she went to New Orleans to nurse as part of the Army Nurse Cadet Corps.  She later returned to college to complete her Bachelor of Nursing in 1979 and was a well-known nursing supervisor at Kershaw County Hospital for over 20 years where she provided the highest level of love and care to her patients.   After retirement, Rose served Lyttleton Street UMC as a Sunday School teacher, a member of Women’s Circle, and volunteer at the church office. She was very artistic and took classes in watercolors. Her beautiful paintings adorn her home and those of her children.

She was the matriarch of a large and loving family who remembers her for many fun weekends at the lake, spending the night with “Nana,” and over 30 years of loud and joyous Christmas celebrations at her home. 

A service of worship will be held at Lyttleton Street UMC on Monday, April 28, at 11am followed by interment at Quaker Cemetery.  Family and friends may visit on Sunday, April 27 from 5 -6:30 pm at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Lyttleton Street UMC and St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. 

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their care as well as caregivers JoAnne Sanders, Zithia West and Valerie Johnson.
