He was a lifetime member of Wateree Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, on the kitchen committee, and in many other capacities. George served in the US Army 14th Cavalry in Germany. Upon returning home from active duty, he went to work with Becker Sand & Gravel. He finished his 45-year career with Hardaway Concrete at the Sand Mine.

George’s greatest joy was rebuilding race cars, street cars, and dirt track cars from scratch. He enjoyed drag racing and dirt track racing. Papa George was one of a kind. The love he gave to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was beyond measure. All who knew him loved him and greatly admired him.
